The forty fifth Junior Joon Tarbet Athletic Championships commenced yesterday at Ambelipitiya.
The meet will take place for three days until the fourth of November 2014.
The results of the first day are as follows:
The junior meet commenced with field events for the age categories under fourteen and under fifteen.
Chanuka Atapattu from Vishaka Vidyalaya etched the winning mark with a distance of 31.57m in the Discus Throw event for the under 15 girls while Haseena Tharushi from Dharamshoka Vidyalaya- Ambanlangoda and M.A.D. Tharuka from Thaldeka St. Rita`s College gained the second and third place respectively.
Dilhara Jayalath from Taxila College, Horana won the Under 15 boys shot put with a distance of 14.72m while Athip Dineth from Jenings International College and M.K. Hazeem from S.Thomas` Preparatory won the second and third places respectively with a distance of 14.18m and 14.17m.
The Under 14 girl’s high jump event was competitive in such a manner that the selectors had to select the winners in the difference of a small margin. Binadi Dideniya from Lyceum International Nugegoda won the event with a height of 1.53m while Yashoda Thejani from Mahinda Rajapakse College, Homagama won the second place with a height of 1.51m. The third place was won by Suppi Mahagedara with a height of 1.40m.
