Sri Lankan Junior Paddlers to leave for Junior & Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship 2019

ITTF World Junior Circuit, Oman Junior & Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship 2019


Sri Lanka’s Junior and Cadet table Tennis Teams left for Oman on 23rd October to take part in the ITTF World Junior Circuit, Oman Junior & Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship 2019.

The championship will be held from 24th to 28thOctober at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Bowshar, Muscat with the participation of 17 countries.

Kingswoodian Chandupa Alahakoon and Thanushi Rodrigo from Mahamaya, Kandy will lead the Sri Lanka boys’ and girls’ teams respectively. The team comprises of one Sri Lanka national player and junior national champion Senura, four junior and cadet Sri Lankan caps Chandupa, Thanushi, Dewmith and Thisas. The under 12 team will be led by Sri Lankan cap Dewmeth along with nine freshers. Former national player Mr. Buddhasiri Withanachchi will function as the manager cum coach while Ms. Siriyalatha will function as the lady chaperon for the team.

Under 18 and 15 Team, Under 18, 15 and 12 singles events will be carried out in the tournament during the five days of competition. Sri Lankan players will have to face the world giants in order to move into the main draw of the tournament in each category.

The table tennis interim committee chairman Mr. Sajith Jayalal who was behind the team from the beginning said, The Championship will provide the most required exposure for the young paddlers to climb the ladder in the world rankings as per the new ranking system introduced by the International Table Tennis Federation”
