Four matches in the Singer Schools’ U19 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 commenced today around the Island.

St. Joseph’s College vs Maris Stella College

Josephian skipper Jehan Daniel won the toss and opted to bat on a sticky surface in Kadirana. Left-hander Sachintha Mahindasinghe continue to be the savior for Joes as he stroked 46 crucial runs as the visitors ended on 172 in 66.2 overs in the traditional encounter.

Right-arm off spinner Ravindu Fernando and left-arm spinner Pasindu Ushetti were the architects to restrict the strong Josephian batting line-up for below par 172.

In reply, Josephian speedster Lakshan Gamage grabbed 5 wickets to dismantle the lads from Negombo to a hapless 130 all out in dramatic opening day.

Left-hander Kamil Mishara stroked a classy 59, while right-hander Thevindu Senarathne supported him with a brisk 46.

Kingswood off spinner Saumya Piyasena was the highlight of the day as he claimed 5/63 to restrict the visitors. In reply, the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals as the Royalists ended the opening day on high.
