Ceylon Biscuits Limited has come forward to sponsor the Sir John Tarbat Senior and Junior Athletic Championship for the third successive year having allocated a sum of Rs 2 million for the two mega events.

The Junior Championship will be held in Embilipitiya from November 2 to 5. The Junior Championships will also serve as a selection trial for the 2017 Asian Youth Games to be held in Hambanthota.

The Sri Lanka School Athletics Association (SLSAA) is hoping to select a pool of athletes from the Under-14 age group and develop a system to train them with the ambition of producing medal winners at the 2017 Asian Youth Games.

The senior event will be held from 13 to 15 October at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama.

Over 3,500 athletes are expected to take part in the senior event from 410 schools where they will be competing in a total of 100 events including 20 relay events throughout the three days.

This is the oldest school athletic championship in the country where the senior championship is conducted for the 84th year while the junior meet is worked off for the 45th time.

“Sponsoring the oldest school athletics championship for the third consecutive year has once again given us the opportunity to support young athletes throughout the county” said Theja Peiris General Manager CBL.
