The Isipathana College Rugby Management & Development Committee has handed over leadership duties of their 1st XV Rugby team to 3rd year coloursman and Flanker, Janith Serasinghe, for the upcoming 2019 Schools Rugby season.

He will be assisted by another 3rd year coloursman, scrum half Kilan Chamath Kodikarage, who will act as his deputy. Serasinghe was a standout player for the Green Machine last year, showing great potential from the back of the scrums and at the breakdowns. His impressive performance and seniority earned him this privileged position in the team and he will look forward to put Pathana back on track in the Schools Rugby arena.

Isipathana had a fairly decent run last year, ending up in 4th place. But, considering their track record in the past, a top four finish is the least expectation for their standards.

However, Serasingha along with Kodikarage, have a good opportunity to change things around in the next few months and put the boys in green back on top, especially with the likes of last year’s skipper Manilka Rubeyru and senior players Nadeesh Chaminda and Nepul Devinda in the line.

The newly appointed captain and coach, Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunarathna will have to combine and form a formidable force if Isipathana are to relive past glory.

However, the school and management are confident that the upcoming season will be a one to remember.
