ISAC 2018; Lyceum Wattala take lead on opening day

The 18th International Schools Athletics Championship more commonly known ISAC commenced today (23rd) at the Diyagama, Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium with the participation of 23 institutions aligned with The International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL).

Organized for the third consecutive year by Lyceum International School, ISAC, which is the premier sporting event for the International schools of the country will be held this year for only two and a half days. The Organizers have decided to align the meet with the educational ministry circular which discouraged young kids under the age of 10 years from participating in competitive events. As such, this year the competitions will be held under 5 age groups which will be under 12, 14, 16, 18 & 20.

Events on the opening day started off at 02.30pm with 12 finals being worked out on the opening day. Defending Champions Lyceum School Wattala got onto an early lead on the medal tally as they managed to gather up 13 medals in total which includes 7 Gold medals 5 Silver medals 1 Bronze medal. The runners up of last year Gateway College Colombo are in second place at the end of the first day with a tally of 7 medals. Lyceum International School Panadura and Nugegoda are in the 3rd and the 4th positions respectively.  

The ceremonial opening of the competition will be held tomorrow (24th) at 08.00am with the Chairperson of ISAC 2018 organizing committee Mrs. Kumari Grero along with the Directors and Principals of all the participating institutions gracing the occasion.
