Asian International School stepping into the game as favorites went on a scoring rampage as they led the game by double figures throughout. Final score card read 64-31 in favor of AIS.

Turning Point

Asian International School stepped into the game as favorites and worked off relentlessly to retain the title at the end of forty minutes of play.

AIS started off the quarter with a couple of fast breaks and kept on swishing in the nets in every other possession as they dominated the entire game in every aspect. Even though they did lead the game throughout they made sure not to loosen their screws in defense and to give half chances away.

They kept on testing the offense of the Kandy lads as they pushed the defense out of the comfort zone. Dhamishike Piyasena silently assassinated on the side as he swished at regular intervals and helped in putting the score far out of reach.

There was nothing much the CIC Kandy team could have done as AIS led the game by double figures as they stepped into the half time. Kiran and Hamza did not play their normal game which was a huge blow and when they did try to change their approach of the defense of the AIS haunted them from the back.

Rebounds were a tough ask and it did stay the same in favour of the Colombo lads till the end of forty minutes as they had their second and third chances at the rim which resulted in 30+ lead at full time.

Stats don’t lie

AIS skipper Bevan Samuel started off the game and built on the foundation for the rest of the players to capitalise on and march towards the winning line. He lead his outfit gallantly into twenty one- two run for the first quarter robbing the game away from the counterparts.
Continuing the sublime form, the AIS lads added up another sixteen points in the second quarter. CIS Kandy did keep half a step inside the game as they managed to score twelve points in the quarter.

Yet the scores after the halftime break were all not in favour of the Kandy lads as the pressure continued to dwell among them. Missing out on the set offensive plays, the shaky offense had them leaking seventeen points in the third quarter and another ten in the final ten minutes.

In reply they managed to only to add up thirteen points just after half time and four points in the latter ten minutes of the game.

Bottom Line

CIS Kandy was in desperate need for Hamza and Kiran to settle down and penetrate into the defense which they did not. All credit should be given to the defense of the AIS lads as they maintained consistency in their defense intercepting passes and stealing the ball off.

All CIS Kandy had to do was to stop the fast breaks, etch the rebounds and set good defense outside the arc and block the lanes into the rim. Everything falls under basics of basketball and they just did not adopt to the basics.
