Kandy Sports Club skipper Fazil Marija who was stretchered away during their fixture against will be out for a minimum of four weeks having sustained a slipped disk injury.

The Sri Lankan skipper who injured himself trying to clear his territory during the Air Force fixture last week at Ratmalana, was hospitalized at a Private facility immediately. Marija who is currently undergoing extensive treatment for slipped disk injury will be most likely discharged tomorrow.

Speaking to ThePapare.com, the national skipper expressed the following,

“I am currently taking necessary treatment at a private hospital in Colombo and most likely will be discharged tomorrow. The advice from the doctors had been to take adequate rest and if all goes well, I would be able to be back in four weeks”

This injury comes in at a crucial stage for the Kandy Sports Club who is currently the table topper in the Dialog Rugby League. Having survived the first round unbeaten, Kandy Sports Club might have to take on  the rest of the season sans their captain. Meanwhile Roshan Weeraratna will take up duties as skipper for the side for the remaining five games of the second round.

The Marija injury opens up the fly half position in the Kandy team and the possible replacements for the position will be Arshad Jamaldeen or Nigel Ratwatte. The absence of the experience will be felt by the Kandy three quarters specially when it comes to the important games such as the Havelock encounter. Their first challenge will be the encounter against Police down in Kandy in Nittawela on the 31st of January.
