India A recorded a comfortable 152-run win in the 2nd unofficial Test of the Sri Lanka A tour of India, today (03) to take the series 2-0 at the KSCA Stadium, Hubli.
India A won the toss and elected to bat first at Hubli and were all-out for 269 thanks to a brilliant bowling effort from pacer Lahiru Kumara and chinaman Lakshan Sandakan. Sri Lanka A could only muster 212 in reply, anchored by Kamindu Mendis’s half century.
India A then put up a mammoth 372 for the 2nd innings, setting visitors a target of 430 to win the match and tie the series. In Sri Lanka A 2nd innings, Bhanuka Rajapaksha orchestrated a masterful century, counter attacking the India A bowling attack, but the batters around him failed to make an impact as Sri Lanka A innings was in trouble again. Sri Lanka A were 210 for 7 wickets at the stumps of day 03 with Kamindu Mendis (33*) and Lakshan Sandakan (1*) in the middle.
In 4th day’s play, Sandakan couldn’t hang around with Kamindu Mendis for long, as he was dismissed for 8. The only hope for Sri Lanka, Kamindu Mendis too departed for a well-made 46, confirming a certain India A win again.
But to everyone’s astonishment, Sri Lanka A last pair didn’t go down without a fight, showing more grit than the recognized batsmen. Vishwa Fernando battled valiantly to score 32 and Lahiru Kumara assisted with a valuable 13.
Ultimately, the pair couldn’t stop the hosts’ bowlers from picking up the last wicket to take the Multi-day trophy, making 2-0 in the series.
The first match of the limited overs tournament of the tour is scheduled to be played on 6th June, at Belgaum.
