The 92nd National Championship conducted by the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka commenced today at the Sugathadasa National Stadium, Colombo. Today was the first day of the national championships and the event will continue for the next three days.
The athletes who excel well will be chosen through the selection criteria for the Asian Games which will be held in Korea next month. The highlight of the day was youngster Himasha Eshan fresh after winning a silver medal at the 16th Asian Junior Athletics in Chinese Taipei winning the 100m dash easily. The former Kaluthara Maha Vidyala sprinter clocked in 10.54 seconds to the delight of the supporters at the stadium. Meanwhile in the women`s 100 meters Nadeesha Priyadarshani from the Sri Lanka Navy was victorious with a timing of 11.89 seconds.
