The second day of the 16th Asian Junior Athletics Championships was a day of mix fortunes for the Lankan brigade. Sri Lanka`s second medal came in the form of Himasha Eashan. Eshan in spectacular fashion clocked in 10.49 seconds behind the gold medalist Japan`s Takuya Kawakami who clocked in 10.47 seconds.
Sri Lankan sprinter came agonizingly close for the gold medal but unfortunately missed it by a whisker. Nevertheless it’s a great performance by the young man who won his heat yesterday to qualify for the finals.
It was an exciting finish Takuya Kawakami of Japan upstaged Himasha Eashan Wathakankanamge of Sri Lanka to emerge fastest athlete of the 16th Asian Junior Athletics Championship. Takuya clocked new personal best performance of 10.47s against Himasha’s 10.49s. Mohammad Hossein Abareghi of Iran took third place in 10.50s.
It was a sad day for another Sri Lankan Nirmali Madushika who came fifth in her 400 meters final. Although Madushika came fifth she clocked in a better timing in the finals than her semi-final where she clocked 55.85 seconds.
