Havelocks Sports Club delivered a ruthless display to overpower CH & FC 50–17 in the final Super Round Cup Segment clash of the Maliban Inter-Club ‘A’ Division Rugby League 2025/26, played at the Racecourse. With this commanding victory, the Park Club sealed third place in the league standings.

CH & FC struck first after a cagey opening, turning an offside penalty into a prime attacking platform. A powerful rolling maul laid the foundation before hooker Pulasthi Dasanayake broke away to crash over for the opening try, with Abdul Haadi converting for a perfect start. (CH 07-00 Havelocks)

Havelocks responded after earning a penalty and building pressure deep inside CH territory. From a five-metre scrum, strong carries led by No. 8 Chathura Dilshan created momentum, and Vunaki Waqanibau powered over. Samuel Maduwantha added the extras to level the scores. (CH 07-07 Havelocks)

The visitors then capitalised on CH’s ill-discipline. A quick tap and a territorial kick shifted play into the CH half, and after sustained forward pressure, Chathura Dilshan finished the movement he initiated, barging over for a well-worked try. Maduwantha’s conversion put Havelocks ahead. (CH 07-14 Havelocks)

CH & FC hit back immediately. Slick distribution from scrum-half Oshan Gunaratna allowed Chanaka Chandimal to release skipper Janindu Dilshan, who sliced through three defenders in a superb run to score. Haadi nailed a difficult conversion from the corner to bring the sides level once more. (CH 14-14 Havelocks)

Havelocks regained the advantage through another penalty-driven entry into the CH 22. A well-executed rolling maul drew in the defence, and winger Jayathu Rajarathne, who had joined the maul, broke from the back to score. (CH 14-19 Havelocks)

However, CH had the final say of the half, with Haadi calmly slotting a penalty to trim the deficit and leave the visitors holding a slender lead at the break.

Half Time: CH & FC 17 (2T, 2C, 1P) – Havelocks SC 19 (3T, 2C)

Havelocks approached the second half with a clear tactical and territorial game plan, patiently building pressure while Gymkhana Club’s indiscipline proved costly. CH conceded three penalties in quick succession inside their own 22, and Samuel Maduwantha made no mistake, calmly slotting all three to stretch the lead into double digits. (CH 17-28 Havelocks)

Riding the momentum, Havelocks continued to dominate. Opting for the corner from another penalty, they executed a clever set-piece move instead of the expected rolling maul. Thrinaethra Dodangoda gathered the throw and linked with Chathura Dilshan, whose offload sent Azmir Fajudeen — playing his 100th match for the Park Club — over the line to mark his milestone with a memorable try and secure the bonus point. (CH 17-33 Havelocks)

CH’s woes deepened when Rizvi Abdullah was shown a yellow card for dangerous play. Sensing the opportunity, Havelocks went back to the corner, and after the maul was illegally collapsed, skipper Janindu Fernando took a quick tap, catching the defence off guard and powering over. Nabeel Yahiya added the conversion to widen the gap further. (CH 17-40 Havelocks)

Although the Havelocks skipper later saw yellow for a high tackle, CH failed to capitalise. A risky long pass inside their own 22 from Absal Mohamed failed to find skipper Janindu Dilshan, and Jayathu Rajarathne pounced on the loose ball to race under the posts. Fajudeen added the simple conversion to compound CH’s misery. (CH 17-47 Havelocks)

To cap a dominant performance, Maduwantha put the finishing touch with a stunning 55-metre drop goal, sealing an emphatic victory and confirming Havelocks’ third-place finish in the league.
