The Western Province Inter Club Table Tennis Championships were held recently at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium. The tournament which featured several reputed players was played out as a teams competition with plenty of Table Tennis clubs, Associations and Academies taking part.
Eventually after a full day of breathtaking Table Tennis Gampaha District TT Association won the A Division Championship with the I & D Table Tennis Academy emerging as the runner’s up in the men’s category. Winning team of Gampaha District comprised of Manoj Priyankara, Suresh Pushpakumara, Ishara Maduranga and Sasanka Baddage.
Killer Spin TT Academy came in third after defeating N & D TT Club by 3 games to 1. They were followed up by Playground TT Club and Sri Lanka Navy for the 5th and 6th places.
In the much tighter women’s team category N & D TT Club won the championship defeating Thibhar Sports Club. Sanaya Buddhadasa, Oneli Lehansa and Minna Hasim compiled to form the winning N & D women’s team. Up in the the 3rd and 4th places finished N & D TT club B and Familian TT Club in Kalutara.
Also adding an extra flare a Kids tournament namely the Kids Talent were played out. In this category Bishop’s College girl’s won after defeating N & D TT Club 3 games to 2. They were followed up the N & D TT Club B and SMV TT Club in 3rd and 4th places respectively. Only two teams featured in the Boy’s Kids talent category as Lumbini team managed to overcome Hindhu College team to clinch victory.
