The first trial for two major international events kicks off this weekend with the cream of both Junior and Senior Athletics coming together at the Sugathadasa Grounds from the 10th – 12th February.

June 2022 will see the 20th Asian Junior Championship happen from the 16th – 19th June in Techeon Gun, Korea while the 19th Asian Games are set to take place from the 16th – 22nd September in Hangzhou China.

The Asian Games and Asian Junior Championship are both just two of a few international competitions lined up for Sri Lanka Athletics this year, and the athletes get a head start on their selection process.

Stars like Medhani Jayamanne, Amasha De Silva and all the top-notch National athletes will be seen over the weekend going for their best timings ahead of the final selection. Hashini Praboda, Sri Lanka’s top Triple Jumper, will unfortunately miss out on the trials as she is recovering from a knee injury.

The second trial for the Asian Games and Asian Juniors will take place in March and the final trial will happen to meet entry deadlines in April at the 100th National Athletics Championship.
