Day 2 of the 2026 FIBA U18 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers was held yesterday at the Sugathadasa Indoor Sports Complex, where India and Sri Lanka ran riot in the men’s category, while the Indian women beat Sri Lanka to begin their campaign in style.

Bangladesh vs India
Bangladesh took on the high-riding Indians after what was an underwhelming performance against Sri Lanka on day one. On the other hand, India had cruised to victory against Maldives on the opening day, scoring over 100 points. Bangladesh could not change their fortunes much as India tore them apart, breaching the triple-digit mark yet again. Akash Iyappan and Joypreet Singh Sidhu scored 20 points each. Sidhu also hauled down 14 rebounds including 9 on the offensive glass. Sidhu’s magnificent outing earned him the Player of the Match award, which will surely provide a massive boost of confidence going forward in this campaign.

Sri Lanka vs India
Sri Lanka, after beating the Maldives pretty comprehensively on day one were eyeing back-to-back victories to add to their win column. However, the Indians, coming in fresh with an extra rest day under their belt, defeated the hosts with ease, securing a comfortable 30-point lead by full-time. Sri Lankan skipper Binuthi Jayasinghe maintained her good run of form with 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to alter the game’s momentum. India’s Mahek Sharma who was adjudged Player of the Match, put on a masterclass by recording 17 points and 17 rebounds. Tarushee Tharun and skipper Viha Reddy chipped in with 16 points each to hand the hosts their first defeat of the campaign

The Sri Lankan men were unstoppable yet again on day two, enjoying a dominant outing against the Maldives and scoring over 130 points for the second game running. Skipper Sudam Liyanage was named Player of the Match for his exceptional performance, recording 23 points alongside 9 rebounds. Day one’s standout performer, Aaron Gerald, continued his red-hot form by exploding for 39 points to extend his tournament tally.
