Former Member of Parliament Eran Wickramaratne has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly formed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Transformation Committee, marking a significant shift in the administration of the sport in the country.

The nine-member committee, appointed by the Sports Ministry, includes prominent Sri Lankan cricketing figures such as Kumar Sangakkara, Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the restructuring process.

The appointments come in the wake of a major administrative development, with SLC President Shammi Silva and members of the Executive Committee submitting their letters of resignation to the Sports Minister earlier today.

According to the Sports Ministry, the decision has been taken under the powers vested in the Minister through Sections 31 and 34 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973. As a result, the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket will be temporarily brought under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with immediate effect.

Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage stated that the newly appointed body, tasked with overseeing reforms within Sri Lanka Cricket, will be known as the “Cricket Transformation Committee.”
