Duvindu and Shanogeeth shines for Trinity against Joes

Left-arm spinner Duvindu Tillakaratne and left-handed opener Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan excelled for Trinity College, Kandy in their drawn 105th annual under 19 cricket encounter against St. Joseph’s College which concluded on Saturday at Asgiriya.

Spinner Duvindu captured a 10-wicket match bag including a 7-wicket haul in the first-innings while Shanogeeth slammed 107. The hosts’ made 318 runs on day one which set up the game. Apart of Shanogeeth’s knock, Shavindu Amarasinghe and Tashila Dodanwela chipped in with 40s.

The visitors were bowled for 172 after being 97 for 4 overnight. Left-handed opener Revan Kelly top-scored with 46. Tillakarathne ended up with 7 for 58. After being asked to follow-on, the Josephians put up an improved batting performance as they batted till close of play on day two. Left-handed middle-order batsman Nipun Sumanasinghe remained unbeaten on 77 while Kelly continued his good form with a well-compiled 66.

Nalanda College vs D.S Senanayake College

Nalanda College claimed a morale-boosting 4-wicket win over D.S Senanayake College in their under 19 division one encounter which concluded on Saturday at Wijerama Mawatha.

DS Senanayake grabbed a slim 10-run first-innings lead courtesy Anjana De Silva’s bowling but Nalandian leg-spinner Kavindu Bandara mesmerized the hosts’ batting in their second innings as they were folded for just 88.

Chasing 99 runs to win, the visitors lost 6 wickets but their Sri Lanka under 19 representative and skipper Malinga Amarasinghe steadied the chase with a sensible 40.


S. Thomas’ College vs Wesley College

S. Thomas’ College bagged the Sathasivam Trophy for the second consecutive year when they triumphed over Wesley College by 5 wickets at Campbell Park on Saturday.

The hapless Wesley succumbed to their second successive defeat this week after going down at the hands of St. Joseph’s last Tuesday.

S. Thomas’ – 271/9 declared in 70 overs: Ravindu Kodituwakku 54, Yohan Perera 42, Dilendra Gunathilake 53, Sachitha Jayathilake 58, Helitha Babarenda 3/35, Yomesh Ranasinghe 3/80, Shanuka Madushan 2/40.
