The second and final unofficial Test in the Bangladesh A tour of Sri Lanka 2019 was worked off today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the hosts were 223/5 at the stumps.

Sri Lanka A made 4 changes leading up to this match, making room for the bench players who sat out in the 1st game.

Sri Lanka openers, prolific run-scorer Pathum Nissanka and Sangeeth Cooray who hit a brilliant century in the 1st unofficial Test last week, couldn’t built a good partnership at the top as Cooray fell pray to Mehedy Hassan Miraz’s off spin for 17.

Then the other centurion from the 1st game, Kamindu Mendis partnered up with Nissanka to build the pivotal partnership of 121 runs to assert the dominance of Sri Lanka A. Mendis who is in the form of his life, dispatched 8 boundaries and 1 maximum on his way to a strokeful 62.

His partner, Pathum Nissanka made an eye-catching 85 off 166 balls, showcasing his potential in the multiday format as an opener. Both batsmen were dismissed by the experienced campaigner Mehedy Hasan Miraz who has already appeared in 20 Tests for Bangladesh at the age of 21.

After the dismissal of two set batsmen, skipper Ashan Priyanjana and Priyamal Perera didn’t last in the crease for long as Sri Lanka-A were suddenly down to 221-5 from 188-2. Pair at the crease were wicket keeper batsman Lahiru Udara and former Sri Lanka U19 skipper Charith Asalanka who were on 4* and 17* respectively as the game hangs in balance.

The series is 0-0 so far after the first unofficial Test ended as a draw and both teams will look to have a crack at the win if the weather permits.
