DRS to be reset at 80 overs.

The ICC has given the green light to test out a modification in the Umpire Decision Review System, wherein the number of reviews each team has will be reset to 2 at the completion of 80 overs in an innings.

This decision was taken at the ICC Chief Executive Committee’s Meeting held in Dubai. According to the current system, a team is only allowed two incorrect reviews per innings. With the implementation of the new rules, each team will have two referrals at their disposal at 80 overs regardless of how many they used before that.

In addition to this, the ICC also decided to retain the rule of using two new balls in One Day Internationals, but decided that only one ball would be used if a game were to be reduced to less than 25 overs. Teams from the subcontinent had voiced their displeasure over the two ball rule, as they feel it places their slow bowlers at a disadvantage.

The new rules come into effect from October 1st 2013
