“Do not involve Politics in Sports” Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara

    Assuming duties as the newly elected Sports Minister of the new national government at the Ministry of Sports this morning, Honorable Dayasiri Jayasekara voiced out that it is essential to keep politics out of sports.

    Taking office at the auspicious time, the honorable minister expressed his views on where he intends to take sports in the country to during his two-year. He also expressed his views on how the 26 bodies that are under the ministry face various issues and conflicts between the governing bodies and stressed that these will be looked into as a priority.

    The honorable minister stated that he has played almost every sport and is no stranger to the subject. He further stated that he will be acting impartially and would choose to carry out what will be the best for the betterment of sport in the country. He said that he has been having very close relations with many sporting officials but he would not be hesitant in doing the right thing at all times.

    Addressing the prevalent issues in the sports bodies, the newly appointed minister mentioned that he would be meeting each and every sports body in the coming weeks in order to discuss the issues in each organization and take steps to resolve them. The sports law and the regulations will be the other area which he would focus and look on improving, he further added.

    Concluding the briefing, Mr. Jayasekara requested all the sports bodies, officials and the members of the press to contribute in a favorable manner to take sports in the country to greater height.

    The former Minister Navin Dissanayaka also dropped in to the gathering and he was quizzed fiercely by the media on his stance of going up against the world bodies.  He stated he stands vehemently by his stand and that the sports law needs to be amended and that when dealing with the world bodies they must take into account the Sri Lankan sports law
