Dilshi & Ushan top Asian rankings for 2021

Sri Lanka’s track queen Dilshi Kumarasinghe and High Jumper Ushan Perera created a storm when they topped the Asian charts for 2021 in the Women’s 400m and 800m and Men’s high jump events respectively.

Running in the Athletic trials held at the Sugathadasa Stadium recently, Dilshi clocked a record timing of 53.43 in her 400m and 2:02.52 in the 800mwhich not only broke national records, but brought her to the top of the table in Asia this season.

Ushan Perera created his own history and that of the country when he cleared 2.28m at the Texas Relays high jump championship. This is also the highest jump in Asia and fourth-highest in the world this season and a Sri Lankan national record in all conditions.

Further records were set by Anjani Pulawansa in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.23 and, Nilani Ratnayake in the steeple-chase event with a timing of 9:57.81 both the 2nd best in Asia in 2021.

Kalinga Kumarage (200M – 20.85 & 400M – 45.99 Sec), Amasha de Silva ( 100M – 11.60 Sec), Janidu Lakwijaya ( 110MH – 14.27 Sec) and Mohamed Safan ( 110MH – 14.27 Sec) also registered some of the best timings in Asia thus far this year.
