Renowned trainer Dilshan Fonseka has been appointed temporarily as the Sri Lanka national cricket team trainer, as a replacement for Micheal Main, till the end of the Australian series.

27-year old Michael Main joined Sri Lanka Cricket on June 1st in 2015 and has left halfway through his two-year contract, after receiving an offer from Warwickshire County Cricket Club in England as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He was previously employed at Hampshire county cricket team under ECB before joining SLC.

Fonseka had come up the ranks to the top position following his success at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo for nearly a decade and then with Ragama Cricket Club. Before being bestowed as the national trainer, Fonseka had worked as the Trainer for the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team and Sri Lanka U19 team.

Sri Lanka Cricket has already advertised for the position of national trainer and if they fail to find a replacement in the near future, Fonseka will be in-charge of the Strength & Conditioning for the national team ahead of their tour to Zimbabwe in October.
