Selectors’ Youth Policy

Former Sri Lankan skippers Sanath Jayasuriya and Tillakaratne Dilshan expressed disagreement in the National Selectors’ choice to drop a number of senior players from the National Men’s Cricket team.

Both Dilshan and Jayasuriya felt that it was not the right time to drop senior players and pick an entirely young team, especially in a year where Sri Lanka will participate in a T20 World Cup.

Dilshan suggested that the selectors should have at least kept Angelo Mathes or Lahiru Thirimanne in the team in order to balance the team with youth and experience.

Jayasuriya, endorsing Dilshan’s views, said that sudden dramatic changes like these can hamper the performance of the team.

The former skippers Dilshan and Jayasuriya expressed these views during a show called the “Late Night Chat show” on Facebook.
