Colombo vs Galle

Colombo batters who were stuttering at 110/6 at stumps on day one, added 42 more runs to the overnight score as they were bowled out for 152 in their first innings.

The off-spinner Akila Dananjaya had a great outing with the ball as he managed to grab a 5-wicket haul for Galle. The off-spinner Chanaka Ruwansiri also gave him good support at the other end picking up 3 scalps for 45 runs.

Galle began their second innings with a 115-run lead, but they couldn’t handle Colombo spinners on Galle’s surface as they were shot out for just 103 runs in 18 overs. The left-hander Dhananjaya Lakshan was the only batter who showed some resistance for Galle as he stroked a counter-attacking knock of unbeaten 47 runs off 29 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 162.06.

Colombo left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya who picked up 6 wickets in the first innings, once again impressed with the ball taking 5 more wickets in the second innings. The off-spinner Lakshitha Manasinghe and leg spinner Ashen Bandara shared 5 wickets between them.

The target of 219 looked challenging on Galle’s surface, but it wasn’t the case for Colombo as their skipper Dimuth Karunaratne played a match-winning knock guiding his side to a comprehensive 8-wicket victory.

Karunaratne scored unbeaten 125 runs off 143 balls with 15 fours and a six. Experienced campaigner Roshen Silva gave good support at the other end scoring unbeaten 55 runs off 78 balls with 7 fours.
