Dialog Clifford Cup Knock-Outs Tomorrow

200

The league is now over and the teams once again have the chance to compete with each other in the knock-outs which will commence from 20th march 2015. Kick off 4.15 pm at the Race Course Grounds.

Navy won the Dialog Clifford Cup knock-outs last year but lost the league by a whisker to the Kandy S.C. in the season 2014/15.

Here is a look at the points table

CH&FC and Hambanthota Sharks pulled out from the league as a result the second round games were played only between seven teams. Kandy have a bye and will play against the winners of Havelock v Police at Nittawela either 25th or 26th March.

Navy finished second in the league therefore, they will take on the wooden-spoon Air Force team once again. Sailors pretty much favourites to take on the semi-finals against the winner of the second quarter final between Army v CR&FC.

Nevertheless, Havelock’s v Police and CR v Army will be yet another grudge battle without a doubt. Havelocks beat the Cops twice in the league winning convincingly 21 – 07 and 28 – 44. But the second quarterfinal between Army and CR will be even interesting as they have won one each in the league. Army 15 – 21 CR in the first round of the league and the Soldiers took the revenge in the second round at Longdon Place with a 21 – 18 victory.

Below is the graphics of the knock-out format

Kandy, Navy and Havelocks definitely will be favorites. However, Kandy SC key player Christopher Cloete who scored 15 tries in the league which is a joint highest along with Apisai Naqaliva of Police is now out due to an injury and he was sent immediately to his home country, South Africa to undergo a surgery. That will be huge loop without a doubt as he was simply outstanding for Kandy in the concluded league.
