Dhananjaya stands out against Ananada

Ananda College took on Royal College Panadura in an interschool cricket encounter this evening which took place in Panadura.

 

Ananda College batting first managed to score 170 runs in 46 over’s in their first innings. Kushil Perera, Menuka Ashan, Shammu Ashan and Kawin Dhananjaya scored the bulk of the runs for the visiting team as the batters ended with scores of 30, 28, 33 and 22 runs respectively to give their team a steady start.

Thanks to the two Dhananjaya’s, Hasitha and Thenuka, Panadura Royal managed to reduced the scoring as the bowlers chipped in with 4 and 3 wickets to stem the flow of runs.

The hosts batting in their first innings managed to use the home conditions to good effect as they scored 231 runs for a 9 wickets in 61.5 over’s.

Dulip Gayan and Madhawa Nimesh notched up half centuries scoring 62 and 54 runs respectively, while Akila Lakshan and Asithe Fernando helped their team by scoring 20 and 21 runs. Isuru Gunathilake and Shammu Ashan helped in the bowling department for the Maroons with 4 wickets each. 

With a first innings defecate Ananda had to come up with a better batting performance in the second innings and they managed just that scoring 216 runs for 5 within 51.2 over’s. Thamalaka Athulathmudali and Pasindu Isira managed to score half centuries to their name scoring 73 and 64 respectively while Lakkana Jayasekara supported the team with 35 runs. Thenuka Dhananjaya after capturing 4 wickets in the first innings finished day one with another four bringing his overall tally up to 8 for the match so far.
