The 2nd edition of the Battle of the Warriors series between Devapathiraja College, Rathgama and P. De S. Kularathna College, Ambalangoda was ended in a draw today (13th May) at the Rathgama Public Grounds.
P. De S. Kularathna College’s Captain Hirusha Dewmika asked to bat first after having won the toss. However, they were blown away for just 127 runs with only three batters reaching the double figures. Chaminda Sandaruwan bowled superbly to pick 4/9, while Puljith Wathsuka and Pathum Shaminda scalped three apiece.

In reply, Devapathiraja College managed to post 217, with opener Darshaka Sandeep striking a 61-ball 63 as their top scorer, while Skipper Jeewaka Shashen and Pawan Sandesh had fallen in 30s. On the other hand, Shakila Hansaka and Lasheen Vanidu picked a couple of wickets apiece.
Being 90 runs behind, P. De. S. Kularathna College began their 2nd innings, but they lost the 1st wicket very early. However, Shavindu Akash and Ravishan Nethsara took their side to a comfortable position with a 111-run partnership. Akash got out after scoring 40, while Nethsara played a blistering knock of 32-ball 65 which included 7 fours and 5 sixes.

When both set batters got out in quick succession, they lost their way completely and were bowled out for 182. Irushka Thimira bagged 4 for 43 with the ball.
Devapathiraja College needed 93 runs to win, but they didn’t have enough overs to chase that down as the 2nd Battle of the Warriors ended in a draw, with Devapathiraja College having been able to dominate the contest for the major part of it.
