Daring and different – Kotmale Chox U19 Schools Football Championship

Kotmale Chox U19 Schools Football Championship will kickoff for the second year with 24 schools participating from all over the island.

The 2014 Kotmale Chox Football Championship created much needed excitement and exposure for the game with thousands of fans attracted to cheer their schools.

Of the 24 teams participating St.Henry’s College Jaffna will be participating in an all island tournament after a lapse of 43 years. St.Henry’s were involved in national level schools football back in 1972 and their return will be a huge boost for war-torn north which is rebuilding rapidly.  

Last year’s Champions Zahira College will have their work cut out against runners up St.Peter’s, Hameed Al Husseinie, Maris Stella, De Mazenod, St.Benedict’s as well as from Richmond, St.Servatius from the south and St.Joseph’s College Anuradhapura.

Commenting on the tournament General Manager of Sales Buddisha Herath added;

“Kotmale Chox is an emerging brand that has shown a lot of vitality within a very short period of time. This association we have established with emerging football talent exemplifies the partnerships we hope to build with youth and sports. Kotmale through its wide product of nutritious dairy products Is planning to invest in the future of Sri Lanka and where better to start than with the world’s most popular sports played by the future national players?”

The 24 teams will be initially divided into 4 groups where they will play on league basis – each team playing five matches. Then the top two of each group will be selected and those 8 teams will again be divided into two groups playing 5 matches each. Top two of those two groups will qualify for the semifinals.
