D.S. Senanayake College will take on Mahanama College in the 17th Battle of the Golds over the 24th and 25th of March at P. Sara Oval Cricket Stadium, followed by the 17th One Day game on the 8th of April at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

At this time, Manura Peiris is taking the responsibility to lead D.S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College has handed over that responsibility to Sachira Weliwatta.

In the last 16-year history, D.S. Senanayake is the only side to register a win in the Battle of the Golds series, when they beat Mahanama College back in 2014.

Mahanama College

In the 2022/23 season, Mahanama registered 2 outright wins by beating St. Thomas (Matara) and Kingswood College while also featuring in 6 first-inning wins too. Apart from that, They have one outright loss, one first innings loss and 3 drawn matches.

Anjala Bandara, who played ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, has scored 1161 runs in 19 innings including 5 tons and 6 half-tons. Kavindu Amameth also among the runs as he scored 832 runs so far with 4 hundreds and 4 fifties while 6th-year colorsman, Sachira Weliwatta stroked 668 runs, that include 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries.

From the bowling front, Venuk Hettiarachchi bagged 23 wickets while Inuka Karannagoda took 35 scalps while as an all-rounder, Inuka Karannagoda scored 447 runs and picked 35 scalps as well.

In the Schools Cricket Tournament, They won against De Mazenod (Kandana) and Sahira College (Colombo), and registered 3 first innings wins. Also, they have featured in 2 complete losses, 6 first-inning losses and one no-result match.

In the batting department, left-hand batsman, Senura Silva is their top run scorer smashing 729 runs while vice-captain, Gaviru Senhas crossed 500 run-mark and also having the responsibility of keeping wickets.

From the bowling front, D.S. Senanayake’s leading wicket-taker is Poorna Sulakshana who bowls left-arm orthodox and has taken 46 wickets. Other than that, the Bandaranayake brothers were also amongst the wickets where Randhisha bagged 34 and Adhisha took 30 wickets as well.

Their leading run scorer, Silva is an excellent all-rounder taking 15 wickets with the ball.
