Sri Lanka managed an easy 84-run victory over hosts Malaysia in a warm-up game ahead of the Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition Qualifiers which are set to begin on Tuesday (18).

The visitors got off to an electric start after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, with openers Chamari Athapaththu and 16-year-old Vishmi Gunaratne racing to 63 in 8 overs. The pair retired out to give the other batters some time in the middle and Nilakshi de Silva, Harshitha Madavi and Kavisha Dilhari obliged with 21, 31 and 20 respectively.

Sri Lanka managed 20 boundaries in their innings of 166/7.

Udeshika Prabodhani got Sri Lanka the early breakthrough in the very first over and the others kept things tight on the other end and Malaysian women struggled to get going. Their biggest partnership was 37 between Mas Elysa and Nur Arianna Natsya but the rate of scoring was so slow that Sri Lanka were never really in danger of having their target chased down.
