Colts beat Panadura for Premier League Plate

Colts Cricket Club produced a splendid all round performance to beat Panadura Sports Club outright by seven wickets in their SLC Premier League inter club tournament Plate Championship match which concluded at the FTZ ground in Katunayake today.

Colts CC once again had the satisfaction of dismissing their opponents for a modest total in the second innings as well while leaving them with a victory target of 194 runs which they achieved quite convincingly.

Opening batsman Harsha Vithana led the run chase together with Bhanuka Rajapaksa as the pair figured in a vital second wicket stand of 88 runs having lost their captain Aruna Dharmasena in the third over of the innings.

After their departure middle order batsmen Milinda Siriwardena and Roshen Silva added the finishing touches to their victory while putting on 71 runs for the unfinished fourth wicket from just eight overs.

Earlier spinners Dilruwan Perera and Sachith Pathirana captured five wickets each to help Colts CC bundle out Panadura SC for 213 runs in the second innings.

Panadura SC opening batsman Malith Chaturanga played a long hand to pull his team out of trouble while stroking a splendid 113 runs from 163 deliveries inclusive of ten boundaries.

Moors v SSC

Meanwhile Moors Sports Club edged out the SSC on the first innings in a high scoring SLC Premier League inter club cricket tournament Super Eight match which concluded at the NCC ground in Maitland Place today.

SSC made a fantastic effort to overhaul their opponents huge first innings total of 437 runs before they eventually fell short by just 37 runs following some marvelous batting from their top order.

In fact the SSC were well on track towards reaching their target after opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne and skipper Tharanga Paranavithana had provided them with the perfect start which was consolidated by Thilina Kandamby.

The former SSC captain played the sheet anchor role as he raised his team’s hopes by stroking a magnificent 147 runs from 271 deliveries inclusive of sixteen boundaries.

Kandamby put on 84 runs for the seventh wicket along with all rounder Kaushal Lokuarachchi and added a crucial 46 runs for the ninth wicket along with Kasun Madushanka.

However, Moors SC came back into the game when it really mattered and were able to wrap up the SSC innings for exactly 400 runs while claiming the last three wickets for 47 runs.

Dilhara Lokuhettige, Vimukthi Perera and Chaturanga de Silva did the damage for Moors SC while capturing two wickets each.

Moors SC went on to add further humiliation to their opponents while rattling up a massive 401 for 4 wickets in their second attempt with Oshada Fernando and Irosh Samarasooriya completing superb centuries.

Fernando struck fifteen boundaries and Samarasooriya had a dozen of boundaries with the pair also adding a splendid 190 runs for the second wicket.

Chilaw Marian v Air Force

Chilaw Marians CC had to be content with first innings points over Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in their SLC Premier League inter club cricket tournament Plate Championship match which concluded at Maggona today.

The Airmen chasing their opponents huge first innings total of 486 runs made a splendid effort to at least get closer to that score as they were eventually bowled out for an impressive 367 runs in reply.

Middle order batsman Dushan Vimukthi led the run chase as he hammered a brilliant 174 runs from 294 deliveries inclusive of two sixes and 26 boundaries.  

Umesh Karunaratne was the star for Chilaw Marians CC with a five wicket haul with the back up support coming from Upul Indrasiri (3 for 124) and Lahiru Gamage (2 for 102).
