Colombo FC put on a top-notch performance to defeat Blue Eagles SC 4-0 in the final match of the Vantage FFSL President’s Cup 2020 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The Blue Eagles booked their place in the finals defeating Java Lane in the semi-finals by 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 2-2, while Colombo made their way into the finals overcoming the Red Stars 3-2 on penalties with both teams scoring 2 goals each at the end of regulation time.

Blue Eagles started swiftly creating multiple opportunities but poor finishing and some brilliant goalkeeping from Mohamed Imran denied them of goals.

Colombo started to dominate the proceedings with an impressive attacking display and broke the deadlock in the 31st minute as Shabeer Razooniya’s beautifully curled in cross off the left found an unmarked Ahamed Shazny inside the box whose header hit the crossbar and rebounded back, for him to easily tap it home.

They almost doubled their lead immediately after with a failed clearance from the Blue Eagles defence finding Zarwan Johar all open at the edge of the box, but his shot off-balance hit the woodwork and rebounded back to Ruwan Arunasiri to grab it easily.

Mohamed Fazal displayed a moment of magic dribbling past 4 defenders and taking the ball into the box from the left, but could not find the all-important final touch to put the ball back in the net as his shot went wide of the posts.

Colombo missed yet another opportunity towards the end of the first-half with Blue Eagles defender Harsha Fernando pulling a brilliant goal-line clearance off a Fazal. Who shot from close range followed by a diving save from Arunasiri against a long-range effort from Shazny.

Half Time – Blue Eagles 0 – 1 Colombo FC

Colombo managed to hold onto possession while Blue Eagles tried their luck from long-rangers and counter-attacks, but both teams failed to devise any goalscoring opportunities in the opening minutes of the second half.

Colombo continued their attacking onslaught and eventually was rewarded with their second of the night as Momas Yapo brilliantly controlled a corner kick from Zarwan off his chest before volleying it home from close range.

Chances kept coming Colombo’s way as Shazny completed his brace in the 82nd minute as his shot found the back of the net off a Shanaka Wijesena deflection that left Arunasiri with no opportunity whatsoever.

Razooniya who had a magnificent game throughout wrapped things up and put the icing on the cake in injury time with him delightfully curling in the ball into the far post from an angle after Arunasiri saved his initial attempt at a goal.
