The 84th John Tarbet Athletic Championships commenced on the 13th of October 2014, at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse International Stadium.
It was perfect conditions for athletes to set foot on track and compete against each other with the bright sunlight falling down the sky. Using the conditions perfectly, the athletes from outskirts of the commercial city dominated the day by etching the winning mark in almost all the event finals that were conducted on the day.
