Club Cricket Summary – Colts, SSC and Ragama fail to progress to the Super Eight stage

Three of the top teams in the domestic cricket arena in Sri Lanka, Colts CC, SSC and Ragama CC failed to book their place in the Super Eight stage of the SLC Premier League Tournament 2014/15 as the group stage finally came to an end on 1st of March. 

Top four teams from each group A and B will now progress to the Super Eight stage which starts on 5th March and those games will be 4-day encounters while the rest of the teams will vie for the Plate Championship. 

In the final week of the group stage, SSC and CCC registered outright wins while other games ended as drawn games. 

SSC vs Chilaw Marians 

Leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersey’s 9-wicket match bag helped SSC register a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Chilaw Marians at R. Premadasa Stadium. 

Chilaw Marians – 269 all out in 61 overs: Nimesh Perera 68, Shashrika Pussegolla 58*, Jeffrey Vandersay 5/47, Lakshan Jayasinghe 3/64.

SSC – 278 all out in 92.4 overs: Kavindu Kulasekara 65, Dasun Shanaka 52, Thikshila de Silva 4/57, Lahiru Gamage 3/73.

Chilaw Marians (2nd inn) – 152 all out in 58.1 overs: Kasun Vidura 48, Kanchana Gunawardene 38, Binura Fernando 2/11, Jeffrey Vandersay 4/47.

SSC (2nd inn) – 144 for no loss in 28.4 overs: Kaushal Silva 70*, Danushka Gunathilake 65*.

 

CCC vs SL Army

Right-arm off spinner Maduka Liyanapathiranage’s 6-wicket haul in the 2nd innings helped CCC shut down SL Army by 137 run at Panagoda. 

CCC – 324 all out in 103 overs: Prasanna Jayawardene 72, Lasith Abeyrathne 76*, Ajantha Mendis 3/70, Ravindra Palliyaguru 3/72.

CCC (2nd inn) – 199 all out in 53.4 overs: Lasith Abeyrathne 38*, Ravindra Palliyaguruge 5/70, Seekuge Prasanna 3/47.

Army – 220 all out in 56.3 overs: Shalika Karunanayaka 81, Ajantha Mendis 38, Dulanjan Mendis 4/71, Maduka Liyanapathiranage 2/44.

Army (2nd inn) – 166 all out in 45.3 overs: Asela Gunarathna 35, Dulanjan Mendis 3/50, Maduka Liyanapathiranage 6/68.

 

Colts vs Ragama

Angelo Jayasinghe, Lahiru Milantha, Sachith Pathirana and Kusal Janith Perera slammed tons in a high-scoring drawn game at Colts grounds. 

Colts – 485/6 declared in 93.2 overs: Shehan Fernando 92, Kusal Perera 74, Shehan Jayasuriya 62, Anjelo Jayasinghe 100*,Sachith Pathirana 113*, Amila Aponso 3/78.

Ragama – 342 all out in 103.4 overs: Nilushan Nonis 63, Lahiru Milantha 116, Malinga Bandara 61, Dilruwan Perera 7/101.

Moors vs SL Ports

The SL Ports outfit continued their good form as they recorded a first-innings win over Moors SC at Braybrooke Place.

Tamil Union vs Bloomfield

Bloomfield managed to sneak in a first-innings win and seal their place in the Super Eight against Tamil Union at P. Sara Oval stadium.

Tamil Union – 179 all out in 36.2 overs: Kieron Powell 68, Nuwan Pradeep 3/57. Suraj Randiv 3/49.

Front-runners and favourites, NCC took the major honours in their drawn game against the SL Airmen at Army grounds.
