The Hutch-HNB Clay Court Nationals Tennis Tournament got underway on the 19th of March at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts. This is the 2020 version of the tournament which was carried forward due interruptions caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Over 900 entries reached this years’ committee with many inclusions from Batticaloa, Kandy, Negombo, Kalutara, Bandarawela, Ratnapura etc. The newly introduced Clay Court Nationals Tennis Tournament will be conducted for the 4th successive year.

The Clay Court Nationals is recognized as an All-Island Grade 1 ranking tournament and will attract top rankers of both junior and senior age groups. The tournament this year will be held under strict observation of medical officials and will be following all the necessary health guidelines.

The referee for the tournament will be one of the most senior white badge tennis officials in Sri Lanka, Mr Avantha Suranimala. The Officiating team of this event comprises of White Barge and National Level umpires.

Hatton National Bank and Hutchinson Communications Lanka (Hutch Sri Lanka) will be the main co-sponsors of the tournament. Moreover, First Capital Holdings, NDB Band and E-Life International have come forward to sponsor this event as well.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation, the tournament will not be open for public. However, one parent and the coach will be permitted to enter the premises during the match of the respective players. Everyone is expected to wear face masks at all times and follow all the general health precautions within the tournament premises.
