China takes the lead against Pakistan in Colombo

The South Asian heavyweights were no match for the Asian giants China as they took a 2-0 lead in the first day of play at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo.

Pakistan who are the frontrunners in South Asia behind India were a bit short of talent against a strong ranked Chinese outfit as the hosting nation Pakistan lost both the singles.

Ze Zhang defeated Aqeel Khan in the opener 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 giving them the early lead while Di Wu followed up Ze Zhang’s success defeating Yasir Khan of Pakistan. Yasir Khan took the early lead in the game winning the first set 6-3 but Di Wu won the next three games 1-6, 4-6, 2-6 to secure his win in the second single.

The Doubles will commence on the 5th at the SLTA where Aqeel Khan will team up with Aisam Qureshi to face Yan Bai and Mao-Xin Gong. Both Yan Ban and Mao Xin Gong are within the top 150 doubles rankings where the duo are ranked 143 and 142 respectively.

Play will resume at 10.00 a.m. local time.
