Chamari Athapaththu signs with Melbourne Renegades

Sri Lanka national women’s cricket captain Chamari Athapaththu has signed with Melbourne Renegades for the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League 2022 played in Australia.

Athapaththu who represented Perth Scorchers in the last edition of the tournament will be making a return to the WBBL joining a familiar franchise for herself as she made her WBBL debut with the Renegades in 2017.

The left-handed stroke maker will be a valuable addition to the Renegades who are languishing at the bottom half of the points table (5th place) winning only 1 of 3 games played so far. She is being brought in as a replacement for Harmanpreet Kaur who was ruled out due to a back injury.

The 8th edition of Women’s Big Bash League which began on the 13th October will be played till 20th November.
