CCC snatches a thrilling outright victory over the fancied Colts

CCC snatched a thrilling nine runs outright victory over the fancied Colts Cricket Club team in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament match which concluded at Havelock Park today.

CCC v Colts 

Chasing a challenging target of 234 runs the Colts Cricket Club made a desperate attempt in their second innings before falling short by just nine runs despite a fighting half century from all rounder Sachith Pathirana.

The former Sri Lanka youth player kept Colts CC’s hopes alive almost until the end with a 77 ball 70 which included three sixes and four boundaries before being last man out with the total at 224. 

Pathirana also added 60 vital runs for the seventh wicket along with middle order batsman Akila Dananjaya who struck a fluent 52 from 88 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries.  

The main architects for CCC’s victory were their two spinners Dinuka Hettiarachchi and Maduka Liyanapathiranage who captured three wickets each together with paceman Hasantha Fernando.

Ports v Bloomfield

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC inflicted a humiliating innings and 30 runs outright victory over Bloomfield in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Reid Avenue today. 

Bloomfield were dismissed for 273 runs in their first innings in reply to their opponents massive total of 593 for 7 despite a fighting knock of 91 from middle order batsman Adeesha Nanayakkara who hoisted four sixes and six boundaries. 

Bloomfield were forced to follow on and they folded up for 290 runs in their second innings with skipper Suraj Randiv stroking an unbeaten 106 from just 101 deliveries inclusive of one six and seven boundaries.  

The match winner for Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC and the chief destroyer was Chanaka Komasaru who snapped up a six wicket haul in the second innings to finish with a matchbag of eleven wickets.        

SSC v Panadura 

The SSC pulled off a comprehensive 115 runs outright victory over Panadura Sports Club in their SLC Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Place today.

Set to make 297 runs for victory Panadura SC never looked like making a match of it and they eventually folded up for a modest 181 runs with Kasun Madushanka (5 for 52) and Ranindu Kumarasinghe (4 for 31) causing the damage. 

Earlier the SSC went on to further extend their overall lead beyond their opponents reach while scoring 215 for 9 wickets in the second innings with all rounder Kaushal Lokuarachchi making a top score of 53 runs from 102 deliveries inclusive of one six and six boundaries. 

Ragama V Chilaw Marians

Ragama Cricket Club had to be content with first innings points over Chilaw Marians CC in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament fixture which concluded at the R. Premadasa Stadium today. 

Chilaw Marians CC who were forced to follow on after a first innings debacle produced a splendid batting performance in their second attempt to reach an impressive 276 for 3 wickets with Shashrika Pussegolla spearheading their recovery.  

The elegant middle order batsman hit an unbeaten 103 from just 109 deliveries with the help of five sixes and nine boundaries while putting on 104 runs for the unfinished fourth wicket along with skipper Sahan Wijeratne (51 n. o).

Air Force v Badureliya 

Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club also had to settle with first innings points over Badureliya CC in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at the Surrey ground in Maggona today. 

Badureliya CC spearheaded by a superb century from opener Greg Smith went on to make a bold declaration at 269 for 7 in their second innings while leaving the Airmen a victory target of 185 runs during the final hour.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Army Sports Club held on determinedly in their second innings to force a draw to their SLC Premier League inter club cricket tournament match against Moors SC who took first innings points at Panagoda today.
