The sixteenth encounter of the Carlton Basketball Championships 2014 was held today between Avant Garde BC and Otters BC as Hendry Pedris Basketball Complex.

Avant Garde BC with their dancing shoes on scattered the defence of the Otters BC when they danced to win the game with a lead of thirty five points. At full time the scoreboard read in favour of Avant Garde BC 86-51.

The match commenced with the traditional jump ball start letting possession to Avant Garde BC but a tight zero-zero run was witnessed during the first two minutes of the game. Philip got the scoreboard ticking for the first time in the game with a mid-range jumper and got the early lead on Avant Garde BC.  Otters BC bounced right back squaring the game with a same calibre of shot. Philip being converting the free shots into points got the lead back on his side after a few seconds of play. Otters BC playing good minutes of basketball squared the game again in the fifth minute 6-6. Avant Garde BC also played well in both offensive and defensive aspects and built on the foundation for a scoring rampage when they lead the quarter 19-13.

Lakshan`s assist to Devon reduced the defect to four points for the Otter BC when they started off the second quarter. Closing down the deficit Otters BC depicted signs of adopting into the game but the defence from Avant Garde was so solid in structure that they did not allow the opposition to settle the nerves into the game. Philip and Julian using the height advantage well over the line grabbed a reasonable percentage of offensive and defensive rebounds in the  match which made them get another offensive possession as a set piece or as a fast-break since they had the ball advantage with them. This was the point where the defence of the Otters BC started to fall down in front of Avant Garde BC and they started to strap their dancing shoes on. They closed down the quarter with nineteen point lead diminishing the mental stability of both the players and the supporters of Otters BC.

(Half Time – Avant Garde BC -48 Otter BC -27)

The first minutes after lemons commenced with two back to back three point shots which swished the nets and increased the lead on the Avant Garde BC. The defence of the Otters BC side was absolutely clueless on the necessary precautions to sabotage the ambush from Avant Garde BC. It led to the question whether the players of Otters BC were inexperienced or whether it is the lack of practice which held them back in gaining territory to the game. The most debatable factor in the match was that the foreign player of Otters BC sat down on the bench without minutes which might have been a drawback for the outfit. If he had played his game inside the floor the control of rebounds could have been taken back to Otters BC and then there onward they could have had the control of the game. Minutes ran down in the clock giving Avant Garde a lead of points where they were comfortable enough to fancy the game during the last phase of the game.

Philip had already scored thirty three points for Avant Garde BC when the clock was set up for another ten minutes for the last time in the game. There was nothing practical on the opposition side to implement in order to change the hands of the game as the lead was too far to reach. Avant Garde BC playing calm minutes during the last phase of the game made sure that they extended the lead over thirty points and they did it in ease.
