Carl Mumba, the 21-year-old pacer who impressed in the Test series against Sri Lanka, stands a chance to make his One-Day International debut when the hosts play Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series opener at the Harare Spors Club on Monday (November 14).
Senior pacer Tinashe Panyangara was also named in a 16-man Zimbabwe squad for the series featuring the hosts, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
The 31-year-old seamer is in line to play his first game in the 50-over format since November 2015 with an injury forcing him to miss his side’s most recent assignment against India in June.
The squad, led by Graeme Cremer, sports a drastically different look to the one that was blanked 0-3 by the MS Dhoni-led Indian team. Twenty-two-year-old batsman Tarisai Musakanda is another who could be handed an ODI cap over the course of the series as Zimbabwe look to overturn their flagging fortunes in the 50-over format.
Besides Panyangara, Zimbabwe also welcome back Brian Chari, Chris Mpofu in the squad. From those who were named for the ODIs against India, Tendai Chatara, Neville Madziva, Timycen Maruma, Wellington Masakadza, Tawanda Mupariwa, Richmond Mutumbami, Taurai Muzarabani miss out.
Zimbabwe, placed 11th in the ICC ODI Rankings, are winless in their last four ODI assignments, which included two series against Afghanistan. Their last series win came against Ireland in October 2015.
