Buddhadasa and Ranchagoda dominate Western Province TT

The Western Province Ranking Table Tennis Championship that concluded on the 4th of December 2016 saw 12-year-old  Sanaya Buddhadasa of Visakha Vidyalaya and fifteen-year-old Thisas Ranchgoda of Royal College emerging as the Most Outstanding Players in the Women’s and Men’s categories respectively.

The competition that was worked off at the S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia Indoor Sports Complex by the Western Province Table Tennis Association in association with the Nugegoda Table Tennis Club saw two days of intense action with new winners emerging through the ranks.

In the Men’s singles, Rohan Sirisena of Stag TT Academy defeated Milinda Lakshitha of Ping Pong Academy to win the title. The scores read 11/8, 11/8 and 14/12.

It was Sanaya Buddhadasa of Visakha who secured the Women’s singles winning the final against Jithara Warnakulasooriya of Ladies’ College 11/7, 11/8 and 11/3.

Fifteen-year-old Thisas Ranchagoda of Royal College won the under 18 boys’ singles final as he defeated his counterpart Helitha Hendavitharana after a closely contested final. The final score read 10/12, 12/10, 11/07 & 11/06.

Ranchagoda went on to win the under 15 doubles encounter teaming up with Kavindu Suranga as well. The duo beat Helitha Hendavitharana and Helika Adikari 11/6, 13/11. Hendawitharana, went on to win the under 15 boys’ singles defeating Senura Silva of Ananda College 13/11, 11/13, 11/08, 12/10.

In addition to the outstanding player awards, Jithara Warnakulasooriya of Ladies’ College and Senura Silva of Ananda College were adjudged Most Promising Players in the respective categories.
