The Business Management School (BMS) – Sri Lanka recorded their second win, quite comfortably in the World Finals of the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament beating the Heriot Watt University (HWU) – Dubai by 101 runs.

BMS won the toss and elected to bat first in their second game of the tournament. The Lankan team managed put up a healthy total of 216 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. The spot light shining, yet again on the in-form Shehan Jayasuriya who scored his second century in the overall Red Bull tournament.

Sri Lanka got on to a tricket start losing the captain, Niroshan Dickwella for just 12 and Manoj Sarathchandra for 2, both in quick succession. Itwas the knocks of Shehan Jayasuriya and the reliable Geshan Wimaladharma that stabilised the innings. Jayasuriya went on to make a 42 ball century, which included nine 4’s and seven 6’s before being knocked over by Ronak Khandelwal. Wimaladharma made 30 in 33 balls. Janith Liyanage too made a vital contribution of 29 runs, as Sri Lanka concluded at 216. Ronak Khandelwal, Muqeet Butt and Mohsin Khan got two wickets each.

In reply, Heriot Watt University were only able to make 115 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Chirag Suri led a one man show scoring 50 runs but wasn’t able to gain the support of his teammates to chase the Sri Lankan score.

Devind Pathmanathan and Koshan Jayawickrama led the bowling department for BMS bagging 3 wickets each. Devind Pathmanathan had an excellent spell conceding just 8 runs in his respective four overs which also included 2 maiden overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksha followed in with 2 for 20 in 3 overs.

The Man of the Match – Shehan Jayasuriya (BMS)

The Sri Lankan team recorded their second consecutive win in the World Finals, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament. The team will meet the University of Central Punjab from Pakistan, on 7th September at NCC.
