The 75-member Youth Aquatic Squad from Sri Lanka for Swimming, Diving and Water Polo flew the Lion flag high at the recently concluded BIMSTEC Youth Water Sports 2024 held in New Delhi, India, with 1 Silver and 13 Bronze medals. Sri Lanka ranked 3rd overall in the medal tally, with India and Thailand being ahead.
Out of the 14 medals, 10 medals were brought home by the Swimmers. On the first day itself, the Swimmers secured 4 wins for Sri Lanka from 2 individual events and 2 relay events. This was followed by 2 wins on the 2nd day and 4 wins on the final day.

The first win for Sri Lanka was recorded by Christina Perumal from Asian International School, who came in 3rd place in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke event.
Dinali Karunadasa from Visakha Vidyalaya won the Bronze medal in both the Women’s 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual Medley events.
Amaiah Rassool from St. Bridget’s Convent won another Bronze for the country’s medal table at the Women’s 200m Butterfly event.

Sithuki Yonara from Asian International School added the last individual medal to the tally with her Bronze medal in the Women’s 200m Backstroke event.
The rest of the 5 Swimming Bronze medals were from the relay events.

The Diving Women’s Captain, Kithmi Marambe from Bishop’s College, won the one and only Silver medal for Sri Lanka in the Women’s 1m Springboard event, while young Vinudi Kankanamge from Visakha Vidyalaya placed 3rd in the Women’s 3m Springboard event.
Additionally, both Sri Lanka Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams grabbed the Bronze position in their respective events.
