Sri Lanka added a couple more medals to the tally as Bevishan Wijewickrama and Isuru Senadeera secured a silver and bronze in weightlifting at the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

Bevishan competing in the 85kg category lifted a total weight of 227kgs to claim the silver medal where the run-away winner Maeu nanai Livi from the host nation lifted a total of 253kgs. Livi lifted 113kg in snatch and 140kg in clean and jerk. Bevishan was in bronze medal position after the snatch event lifting 93kgs behind eventual bronze medalist Albert Anderson (101kgs) but stormed back to lift 134kgs in clean and jerk to win the silver by 1kg.

Isuru Senadeera who was competing in the 94kg category was unfortunate not to win the silver. Isuru and Jordan Sakkas of Wales were tied after the two events but since Sakkas had a lighter weight he was given the silver while Isuru had to settle for bronze. Sakkas lifted a total of 264kgs with 112kgs in snatch and 152kgs in clean and jerk while Isuru lifted 116kgs in snatch and 148kgs in clean and jerk. Vernon Taylor from New Zealand, who won the gold lifted 267kgs (118kgs, 149kgs).
