Here’s a brief look into a few matches which took place today in the Singer U19 Division I cricket tournament. 

St Benedict’s College VS Lumbini College 

Bens registered an innings and 58 run victory against Lumbini College today at Kotahena. The home side resumed play on the second day with 161 for 4. They added 87 runs to their total and declared their innings at 248 for 8 in 79.5 overs. Mahesh Theekshana top scored with 61 runs. Left-arm spinner, Kanishka Maduwantha took a five-for for the visitors.

Lumbini had more than half a day to bat through but they only managed to survive for 36.5 overs as  they got cleaned up for just 96 runs. Right arm off spinner Kaveesha Jayathilaka bagged 5 for 24 for the home side as they registered a thumping victory over Lumbini College.

Early on, Lumbini were asked to bat first and they got bowled out for just 94 runs. Speedster Reshan Kavishka took 7 wickets for St Benedict’s in the first innings.

St Peter’s College VS De Mazenod College 

Despite Manelkar De Silva’s heroics with the bat in the second innings, De Mazenod registered a first innings victory over St Peter’s College at Bambalapitiya.

De Mazenod resumed play on day 2 with 94 runs on board and five wickets in hand. It was an intense battle between bat and ball but it was the visitors who edged past the first innings total which was posted by the home side.

Peterite main striker, left-arm spinner, Miflal Ameen was yet again amongst the wickets with a four-for but his efforts weren’t enough to restrict De Mazenod to a lower total. Shangith Deshan top scored with 41 for De Mazenod as they got bowled out for 164 runs.

The highlight of the day was however the innings by Manelkar De Silva. Tall left hander blasted his career best of 169 runs which came in at a very brisk pace. At stumps, St Peter’s were 275 for 8 in 58.5 overs.

Early on, Peterites were bowled out for just 143 runs after they opted to bat first.

Zahira College VS Dharmaraja College 

Sajith Sameera’s all round performance helped Zahira secure first innings points against Dharmaraja College today at Zahira Grounds.

Rajans resumed play with 106 on board with 6 wickets in hand. They were only able to add 93 more runs to their total as Zahira bowlers bundled them out for just 199 runs. Sajith Sameera took a five-for to go with his half century with the bat.

Zahira came on to bat for their second innings and they managed to post 275 for 9 in 70 overs. Muhammad Najath scored an unbeaten 120 while Sajith Sameera scored yet another half century for his side.

Early on, Zahira poster 204 runs for their first innings. Sajith Sameera top scored with 78 while Rukmal Dissanayake bagged 4 for 69 for the Rajans.
