With the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup postponed, Bangladesh Cricket Board is looking to reschedule a slew of international series that have been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

Due to the pandemic, Bangladesh cancelled their tour of Pakistan in March. As the condition around the world worsened, the board then postponed their white-ball tour of Ireland in May, followed by the postponement of the Sri Lanka tour. Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against Australia and New Zealand respectively were also postponed.

It appears that more than hosting international series, Bangladesh are keen to reschedule away tours, as the situation at home in relation to the pandemic hasn’t exactly improved. Cricbuzz understands that BCB has already started to negotiate with Sri Lanka Cricket to reschedule the tour. “Now the challenge is how to get back to cricket and how to quickly reschedule our international commitments which have been postponed,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury, BCB chief executive, said on Tuesday (July 21).

”Since the situation in our country is not favourable, we are seeing whether we can reschedule the series that has been postponed outside our country. We are seeing whether we can finalise Bangladesh’s tour to Sri Lanka as soon as possible and if that can be finalised, then maybe we have a chance to play cricket at this time. And if the weather in Ireland suits all things considered, then we might go to Ireland too. This is something we can work out,” he added.

BCB is also planning to restart their domestic season. As per sources, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis is looking to resume the Dhaka Premier Leaguefrom September 15 after it was postponed following just one round of the competition. ”We are eyeing to bring domestic cricket back as soon as possible and hopefully, the Dhaka Premier League and then BPL if possible,’‘ Nizamuddin noted.

The chief executive also insisted that they aren’t struggling financially due to the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup getting postponed. ”ICC member distribution is not based on the tournament. The ICC member distribution is done on an annual basis. That way we will get the right fee, maybe we will have less for the time being as the tournament will not be happening now. Later, when the tournament will take place, it will be adjusted. This is something how it works as far as ICC and ACC are concerned.

”The two series that we have postponed are Australia and New Zealand and these two series are not our financially profitable series as both were Test series. Excluding expenses, there is not much profit left and so we have not lost much financially from there as well.”
