Sri Lanka U19 Women continued their fine form in the five-match T20 series, registering a second consecutive victory against Australia U19 Women at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
After being asked to bat first, the hosts posted 138 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. It was a combined effort with the bat, as several players chipped in with valuable contributions. Opening batter Sanjana Kavindi made 24 runs, while Rashmi Nethranjali and Nethagi Isuranjali also added 24 and 21 respectively in the middle order. For Australia, Ava Drury once again stood out with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs to keep Sri Lanka from running away with the game.

In response, the visitors struggled against Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack and were restricted to 109 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted overs. The Sri Lankan spinners proved difficult to handle, applying pressure and drying up the runs throughout the innings. Aseni Thalagune and Shashini Gimhani were the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2 wickets apiece, while the rest of the attack maintained tight control to seal a comfortable win.

With this result, Sri Lanka U19 Women now lead the series 2-0, putting themselves in a commanding position ahead of the remaining three matches. The young Lionesses will look to continue their momentum when the two teams meet again in Dambulla for the third T20 on the 24th September.
