The Relay carnival 2014 which is organized by the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka is one of the most looked forward to events in the Athletics calendar and will be under way from the 3 – 5 September 2014 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo

The event goes as far back as the 1970`s where this event initially commenced and in the 1980`s the event was cancelled for as many years until in 2007 where it was revived. The Athletics relay carnival will have a total estimate of 3000 athletes and schools and national athletes will be a part of the participants. A total number of 58 boys schools and 56 girls schools have given their respective nominations for the event. Armed forces will also be taking part as well.
Athletes who will be taking part for the Asian games will also be a part of the relay carnival as it will give them much needed preparation before they leave on the 21st of September for the Asian Games to Korea. There will also be challenge trophies as well for the events. Through its history this event has seen the most prestigious of national Athletes take part and names like Sunil Gunawardena and Palitha Fernando surface. Palitha Fernando , the incumbent President of the Athletic Association mentioned that everyone is looking forward for this event and thanked all the media personal who attend the media conference and also especially thanked BOC Bank for their tremendous support of upbringing of athletics in general in Sri Lanka.
