Sri Lankan athletes are set to receive cash as rewards for winning medals at international competitions.
The above was revealed by the Minister of Sports Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara at a media briefing held at the Government News department auditorium, where the minister also spoke regarding a few main investments that are set to bolster the country’s sporting sector.

Athletes are set to receive handsome cash rewards when they excel in international competitions with an Olympic Gold medal set to yield a mouthwatering prize money of Rs. 200 Lakhs.
01. Cash awards for individual events (For Individual athletes)
02. Cash awards for team events (amounts per individual team member)
As per the cash awards mentioned for the individual events in category number 01. All competitions mentioned in sub categories I,II,III,IV,V and as per the medal categories the mentioned cash awards will be distributed equally amongst all the team members.
03. Cash awards for coaches
I. Coaches of Individual athletes
a) Coach will be eligible to receive a value of 25% from the amount presented to the athlete.
b) In case there is more than one coach, 25% from the amount presented to the athlete will be distributed amongst the coaches as below
I. Current coach – 60% from the above mentioned 25%
II. Previous coach – 40% from the abovementioned 25%
