The 9 Sri Lankan athletes who competed at the Asian Youth Para Games in Bahrain earlier this month were felicitated by the Minister of Sports Namal Rajapakse among other Nationally acclaimed stars, at the Astro Hockey Turf yesterday (15).
The young team performed extremely well in Bahrain rounding up a total of 12 medals under the guidance of swimming legend Julian Bolling, who accompanied the entourage as Team Manager.
Galina Basnayake of Lyceum International School performed the best out of the lot, amassing 3 Gold medals and 1 Silver.
Minister Namal Rajapakse met with Bolling and the 9 athletes to award them with new mobile and Tablet technology. The team was also gifted Hampers by the President of the Professional Sports Journalists Committee, Ram Krish and Secretary Chathuka Divashana.
All gifts were awarded by Sri Lanka’s first Rhythmic Gymnast to make it to the global stage, Anna Marie Ondaatje, who also chatted with the team giving them inspiration from her own journey.
